Characterization of cell growth and protein production. C. bescii (solid symbols) and C. obsidiansis (open symbols) were grown in a 4-liter batch fermentation on 5 g/liter Avicel crystalline cellulose. Samples removed at each time point were analyzed to assess growth. (A) Planktonic cell counts of both organisms.
