Cell directional angles were determined by image segmentation and subsequent assignment of the segmented cell area principal axes. The figure shows the overlay of these principal axes as visualized by ellipsoids (yellow) and the corresponding experimental cell culture micrograph (gray). The inset shows patches of similar cell orientation for the same micrograph. They resemble magnetic spin (Weiss) domains.
