A. An increase in green fluorescence was observed indicating the conversion of bone marrow cells to cells expressing Math1. The cells stained for Math1, myosin VIIa and DAPI (blue). Merge is on the right. B. The green cells were found incorporated into the tissue of the chick otic epithelium. The hair cells of the chick were stained with the chick-specific marker, HCA (white) and myosin VIIa (red), whereas the mouse cells were green due to expression of GFP (arrows). C. Lack of cell fusion was demonstrated by the presence of HCA (arrowhead) in cells that did not have green fluorescence and of Math1-GFP (arrow) exclusively in cells that did not stain for HCA, the marker for chicken. No cells with GFP and HCA were observed in these experiments. Scale bars are 100 μm.
