Ler forms dimers and higher-order multimers in solution. Purified Ler protein (0.3 mg ml⁻¹) was cross-linked by using 0.4 % formaldehyde in PBS, pH 7.2. Samples were taken at the indicated times, separated by SDS-PAGE and stained with Coomassie blue. Molecular mass standards (lane M) are indicated, and lysozyme, a 14 kDa monomer, was run as a control (lane L). Ler monomers and formaldehyde-dependent dimers are indicated. Formaldehyde-dependent, higher-order oligomers are marked with an asterisk.
