Mechanism of enzyme reactivation by hydrogen peroxide in tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase. The reactivation pathway branches at the compound ES-type ferryl intermediate. In the absence of l-Trp, a catalase-like activity is present. The enzyme reactivation occurs when the protein radical and the ferryl species are each reduced by l-Trp. Intermediates shown in parentheses are predicted but not detected experimentally.
