Fig. 1 — Mean (± SEM) plasma glucose, serum insulin, and plasma lactate concentrations and incremental areas under the curves (iAUC) for a meal test day (week 10) in two groups who received supplementation containing either sucrose (♦), n=12 or artificial sweeteners (□), n=11 for 10 weeks in addition to their habitual diet. Postprandial responses were tested by repeated measurement analysis. For all curves, the time effect was significant (P<0.0001). For glucose there was a significant group difference (p<0.01), and a difference in iAUC (p<0.05). For postprandial insulin there was a group×time effect (p<0.05), whereas the iAUC did not differ (group, p=0.06). For lactate there was a significant group×time effect (P<0.0001) and a difference in iAUC (P<0.01).
