Three different blocks of 40 different, randomly selected, common adjectives were used. Initially a personal judgment was recorded on a four-point scale of how well each adjective fitted him or herself. About 4 min after personal judgment of each adjective, the same adjectives were shown again in a different order for autobiographical memory retrieval. Retrieval response was made on a two-point scale (rather fitting or not fitting). Data collection for the present study was limited to the retrieval process. The order of the blocks was balanced to obtain an even distribution.
