Proteasome inhibition drives aggresome formation in tau overexpressing cells. Overexpression of wild-type tau (4R1N) in HEK293 cells. Both endogenous (a, c) and stably overexpressed (b, d) tau protein are detected by immunofluorescence with tau antibody T46 (green). Cells treated with 2 µM PSI for 18 h (c, d) show spherical aggresome-like structures (arrows) at the MTOC. The nuclear compartment is counterstained with DAPI (blue).
