B. burgdorferi is susceptible to killing by RNS.

A. B. burgdorferi cells were challenged with various concentrations of DEA/NO ranging from 0 to 5.0 mM under microaerobic conditions for 4 h. The % of surviving cells was determined by enumerating cfu following growth on P-BSK. The data represent the mean ± SD of three independent experiments. *P < 0.01 compared with untreated controls.

B. Per cent survival was determined for B. burgdorferi cells exposed to 5.0 mM DEA/NO, 5.0 mM diethylamine and/or 10 mM ascorbic acid (Vit. C) for 4 h. The data represent the mean ± SD of three independent experiments. *P < 0.01 compared with untreated controls.
