Mtgr1−/− polyps demonstrate increased apoptosis. Colons were isolated from mice after completion of the AOM/DSS protocol. A, apoptosis was measured via TUNEL staining of Swiss rolled colons from all tumor bearing mice. Mtrg1−/− polyps, on average, have higher apoptotic cell counts than WT polyps (***P < 0.001) but there is no difference in apoptosis within crypts. B, siRNA knockdown of Mtgr1 in the colon carcinoma line, HCT116, resulted in increased apoptosis compared to scrambled siRNA control (*P < 0.05). Error bar represents the standard deviation for three biological replicates.
