Each experiment was conducted in duplicate and the two values are shown. The fitness of Qβ was calculated as (Fitness) = Log10 (PFU/ml_max/PFU/ml_0h), where PFU/ml_max is PFU/ml of free phage in which we adopted the higher value between the values of 7 h or 22–29.5 h after infection, and PFU/ml_0h is PFU/ml of free phage just after infection. The growth curves are shown in Figure S1. NA, not available.
