Figure 3.
Examples of 3 single units that had a response to visual (A, B) or to auditory stimuli (C) in the VLPFC. The cell in A responded equally to face and non-face stimuli with a phasic onset response while the cell in B responded best to faces and to one object (banana). The cell in C responded significantly better to monkey and human vocalizations than to non-vocalization stimuli which are shown in the last two columns. The auditory stimuli which evoked the response are shown below the histogram as waveforms with volts on the y-axis and time on the x-axis. The neuronal response is shown as the raster (top panels) and bar histogram plot (below) which was elicited by the stimulus below it. The 1000 msec stimulus period is shaded in gray and begins at time 0. It is preceded by a 500 msec fixation period and 500 msec post-stimulus period follows the visual or auditory stimulus period. The juice reward is given at the end of the post-stimulus period ~1500 msec.
