Sulfur compounds oxidation during sulfur globule production. Changes in thiosulfate (■, □) (A) and tetrathionate (▲, ∆) (B) concentrations in the culture medium were determined during OSC- (filled symbols) or OLC- (open symbols) incubations. The corresponding TD (C) and TTH activities (D) of A. ferrooxidans cells subjected to 16 h OSC- or OLC-incubation conditions were also determined. (E) Determination of tetH mRNA copy numbers by qRT-PCR. For cDNA synthesis, 200 ng of total RNA obtained from A. ferrooxidans after 0, 5, and 20 h OLC-incubations were used. Copy numbers were expressed relative to 16S rRNA copies present in each sample.
