Topographic maps of normalized R2 as a function of age. Weighted averages of the individual topographic maps were obtained by using the weights from the Harrell–Davis estimator of the deciles of the age distribution. The age deciles appear at the top of the maps. The maps are color coded from 0 (dark blue) to 1 (dark red). The right end map shows the interpolated number of subjects with a max R2 at each scalp location. The distribution of max R2 electrodes is occipital–temporal and right lateralized. One subject had a maximum at a frontal electrode. This is not unexpected because most subjects also had sensitivity to noise at frontal electrodes, in keeping with the literature. The subject with a frontal maximum also had noise sensitivity at occipital electrodes.
