The sst₂ antagonist does not prevent the abdominal surgery-induced decrease in gastric emptying. Overnight-fasted rats were injected iv with sst₂ antagonist (100 μg/rat in 200 μl saline containing 0.1% BSA) or vehicle (saline containing 0.1% BSA) followed by abdominal surgery or sham procedure. Rats received an orogastric gavage of a nonnutrient solution (1.5 ml) and gastric emptying was assessed 20 min later.
