The multidomain proteins share Bcl-2 homology 1,2 and 3 domains(BH1–3). The BH3-only members contain a BH3 region of homology. Most members contain a transmembrane (TM) domain that functions in membrane localization. BNIP3 is a BH3-only member of the Bcl-2 family that contains a BH3 domain, TM domain, PEST domain that controls protein degradation and a conserved domain (CD) that is conserved from c. elegens to humans.
