Comparison of ethanol effects between subjects to the change from pre-injection trials to post-injection trails within subjects in Experiment 2, averaged over all strains and the two light-dark cycles. There was little or no change for the mice receiving saline but clear and significant changes, particularly for the balance beam (A) and grip strength (B), for mice receiving ethanol. Effects on the accelerating rotarod (C) were statistically significant but small. The t ratios represent significance of average change within subjects along the dotted lines and between saline and ethanol groups for the solid versus dotted lines. For the within-subject comparisons, numbers of mice and degrees of freedom were half the values in the between-subjects comparisons.
