Wild-type (WT) and Bcl-3 deficient (Bcl-3 KO) mice were subjected to intratracheal instillation of 104 CFU of K. pneumoniae. A. The amounts of CXCL-1/KC and CXCL-2/MIP-2α mRNA were determined in the whole lung by quantitative RT-PCR at the times indicated following the challenge. Baseline levels of mRNA expression were very low or even undetectable, WT and Bcl-3 KO being indistinguishable. (12 animals per group from three different experiments) B. The concentrations of the chemokines CXCL-1/KC and CXCL-2/MIP-2α were determined by ELISA in supernatants of lung homogenates.
