Scheme 1 — Aminothiazole N-acylation problem. Conditions used: 1. Et₃N (1.2eq), C₆H₅COCl, DCM, 0 °C to rt, overnight; 5 is recovered. 2. ibid 1, except 5 was pre-washed with 10% aq. NaOH; results in complex mixture. 3. Et₃N (1.2eq), C₆H₅COCl, toluene, reflux, overnight; 5 is recovered + trace of 6. 4. i-Pr₂NEt (15eq), C₆H₅COCl (10eq), DCM, rt, overnight; 5 is consumed; mono-and bis-benzoylation products.
