Cells were grown either in (A) enriched medium as in Fig. 3 or in (B) minimal medium as in Fig. 1. Fatty acids were extracted and analyzed by gas chromatography as described in Materials and Methods. Results are presented as the ratio of unsaturated/saturated fatty acids for 16 and 18 carbon lipids as indicated and represent the averages of 2–3 independent cultures, error bars represent range.
