Developmental profile of dorsal vessel formation following crosses with UAS-(H37A)-3ME and UAS-rpr at 29°C. hand-GFP; hand-Gal4 was crossed with y¹w^67c23 (A–D), UAS-M2(H37A)-3ME (E–H) and UAS-rpr (I–L). Rpr-mediated ablation of cardioblasts begins at embryonic stage 15, whereas the M2(H37A) toxin is only activated at the late second larval instar stage. Embryonic stage was calculated from the middle of a 2 hr egg lay. Embryonic stage 13–14 (A, E and I), 15 (B, F and J), 16–17 (C, G and K) and third instar larvae (D, H and L). Green indicates hand-GFP-expressing cardioblasts, pericardial cells or lymph gland cells.
