Mechanical loading inhibits Akt activation and induces expression of smooth muscle myosin heavy chain (SmMHC) protein in smooth muscle tissues. Akt inhibitor VIII significantly inhibited Akt activation and significantly increased SmMHC expression in low load muscles but did not significantly affect Akt phosphorylation or SmMHC expression in high load muscles.
