(A) Silicon surfaces were modified with undecenoic acid and various ratios of 1-amino hexa(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether (EO₆) to 1-amino hexa(ethylene oxide). The alcohol terminus of the hexa(ethylene oxide) was activated to a succinimide ester using DSC and DMAP such that the pentapeptide RGD (blue) could be coupled to the surface. (B) The table summarizes the average RGD-to-RGD spacings for the various ratios of surface-coupled RGD/EO₆-terminated molecules.
