The level of transcripts in bacteria cultures (OD_600nm = 0.5) in BBβ was determined at 0, 0.5, 1.5 and 5 h after addition of 10 μM NiCl₂, relative to that of the level of ppk (hp1010) under the same conditions. Statistically significant differences of the expression levels in the WT strain versus the ΔnikR mutant are marked by a star (P < 0.02, Student’s t-test).
