Human osteoclasts can be generated from both adherent and mixed adherent/nonadherent precursors. Adherent (left column) or a 1:1 mixture (right column) of adherent and nonadherent bone marrow macrophages were harvested after 5 days in suspension culture and seeded in a tissue culture plate. Cells were grown in the presence of 10 ng/ml recombinant human M-CSF and 50 ng/ml recombinant human RANKL for 10 days.
