An example of a five-step pathway (enzymes 1E to 5E) in which two of the member enzymes, 2E and 5E, possess different metabolic control. Formally, the control is defined as the slope of the function at any point, but practically speaking the point of mean population activity is the reference. It shows that similar proportional drops in activity (40%) caused by mutations have a much greater impact on pathway flux for enzyme 5E than for enzyme 2E.
