The triple slice co-cultures were repeatedly exposed to METH (1–1000 µM; A), cocaine (1–300 µM; B) or morphine (10 and 100 µM; C) in culture medium for 30 min every day for 6 days. On day 7, the slice co-cultures were challenged with METH (10 µM), cocaine (10 µM) or morphine (100 µM), respectively, in KRH buffer for 30 min, and then the extracellular dopamine level was determined. Values represent means of the dopamine concentration ± S.E.M. METH, n = 3–6; cocaine, n = 3–6; morphine, n = 3–7. *p<0.05, ***p<0.001 versus repeated PBS-exposed slice co-cultures.
