Improvement of carotid artery blood flow after mechanical injury of the vessel wall endothelium, after 12 weeks of treatment of cholesterol-fed rabbits, by ASA (5 mg·kg⁻¹ per os, bid) and its prevention by cotreatment with rofecoxib (25 mg·kg⁻¹ per os, bid). The amount of blood flowing through the carotid artery within 60 min after vessel injury was calculated by measuring the area under the blood flow versus time curve. Carotid blood flow was not different between cholesterol-fed rabbits and those fed a standard diet (not shown).
