We observed three categories of axon phenotypes in MO-injected embryos. In Category I, CaP axons extend into ventral muscle and VaP axons extend no farther than the muscle pioneers (1). In Category II, CaP axons extend into ventral muscle and a CaP-like axon extended beyond the muscle pioneers, but no farther than the level of the hypochord (2). In Category III, both CaP and VaP extend axons to the third intermediate target (3), thus both cells developed as CaPs.
