Total cholesterol levels were measured from the serum of 14 age-matched Egr1^−/− and wild-type mice, and FPLC was performed to determine the amount of cholesterol in the HDL fraction. A, Egr1 null mice were found to have nearly 40% less serum cholesterol than age-matched wild-type controls (p < 0.0012, Welch's t test).
