Activity assay shows that C. velia synthesizes its galactolipids in plant-like fashion. Spinach leaves and C. velia whole cell lysate were incubated with UDP-[14C]glucose (UDP-Glc) or UDP-[14C]galactose (UDP-Gal). Total lipids were then extracted and subjected to HPTLC, which was exposed to an x-ray film to detect possible radioactive lipids. MGDG and DGDG are indicated by arrows.
