Epimastigotes (1×107cells/mL) were treated in PBS with 30 µM heme for different periods of time (5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 120 and 240 min) and loaded with 2 µM CMH2DCFDA in PBS for 30 min. ROS formation was analysed by flow cytometry. Fluoresence intensity values were obtained by the ratio of the heme group median to the control group median. Data are expressed as the mean ± standard deviation (n = 5), * p<0.05 as compared to the control group by Tukey's test.
