PDGFRα+-IM are closely associated with nNOS+ nerve fibers in the WT and W/Wv mouse IAS. Dual-labeling of PDGFRα+ cells (red) and nNOS+ nerve fibers (green) in whole-mount preparations within the IAS. PDGFRα+ cells form a network along the submucosal (SM, a, d) and myenteric (My, c,f) surfaces but these cells do not appear to be highly associated with nNOS+ nerve fibers. In contrast, intramuscular (IM) nNOS+ nerve fibers are closely aligned with PDGFRα+ cells (b, e). g Higher magnification image showing varicose nNOS+ nerve fibers closely aligned with PDGFRα+-IM. Optical section thicknesses: a 2 µm, b 2.5 µm, c 4 µm, d 2 µm, e 1.5 µm, f 3.5 µm, g 1.5 µm
