Gelatinase activity in the supernatant of fetal lung cells. Supernatant from epithelial cells and fibroblasts were collected from unstretched (C) and monolayers exposed to 20% cyclic stretch (S). Samples, normalized to the corresponding cell lysate concentrations, were loaded onto a 10% Zymogram (Gelatin) gel and processed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. MMP activity was visualized as clear bands against a dark blue background. Molecular weights for pro and active MMP-2 and MMP-9 were confirmed using recombinant MMPs as positive controls.
