Effect of replacement of sodium with potassium on autofermentative product yields of N-starved cells, fermented at pH 7.0. A. maxima filaments were harvested from a culture adapted for 22 days in nitrate-free growth medium at a cell density of 1.5 g DW/liter of culture. Filaments were resuspended at this cell density in 50 mM sodium or potassium phosphate buffer and incubated for up to 3 days under dark, anaerobic conditions.
