Carbohydrate consumption of N-replete cells in the presence of 100 mM sodium or potassium chloride in 50 mM fermentation buffer after 1 day of anaerobic incubation in the dark. Cells were grown from inoculation for 10 days to a density of 0.9 g DW/liter of culture and harvested for fermentation studies. The fermentation buffers used were MES (pH 5.9), potassium phosphate (pH 7.0), and Tricine (pH 8.3).
