Conformational changes between the apo- (left) and CoASH-bound BhAcot. In the apo-form, the C-terminal helices from each monomer interact, and a continuous β-sheet is formed between the two monomers. In the CoASH-bound structure, the α-helices contact CoASH, and a β-bulge is formed at the interface to interrupt the β-sheet. The N149C mutation (discussed under “Interaction of the C-terminal Helices with Coenzyme A Regulates Catalytic Activity”) is located in the left panel in the position marked with a star.
