FIGURE 5.

Origins of phosphoenolpyruvate (A) and in vivo phosphoenolpyruvate-synthesizing fluxes (B) in S. oneidensis MR-1 WT and ΔhexR mutant. Results were obtained from the labeling experiments with 4 mm [U-13C]lactate and 16 mm unlabeled lactate. Unlabeled glycerate (20 mm) was added to the medium as indicated. The numbers in B are the molar net fluxes (mmol g−1 h−1) determined. Double-headed arrows indicate reactions assumed to be reversible, and the arrows with bigger heads represent the direction of the determined net fluxes. Gray arrows indicate precursor withdrawal for the amino acid analyzed by GC-MS. Metabolite abbreviations: 3PG, 3-phosphoglycerate; PYR, pyruvate; OAA, oxaloacetate. Net fluxes are in supplemental Table S4.
