For each non-Hispanic White MHD patient, an age- (± 5 years), gender- and diabetes-matched MHD patient from among African-American and Hispanic White MHD patients was selected randomly, p values are based on post hoc Bonferroni. Serum and blood values were obtained immediately predialysis except for serum urea which was obtained pre- and postdialysis. AA = African American; NHW = non-Hispanic White; HW = Hispanic White; NIR = near-infrared; TIBC = total iron-binding capacity.
