PD2 affects methylation at H3K4 residue by regulating the histone methyltransferase MLL1. CHD1, a chromatin remodeling protein, that interacts with PD2, then binds to these di-methylated and trimethylated H3K4 moieties. The expression as well as nuclear transport of the CHD1 protein is also regulated by hPaf1/PD2. Binding of CHD1 to the modified histones finally leads to remodeling of the nucleosomal structure resulting in a change in gene expression.
