Quantification of the effect of IL-1 β on the gene expression of lumican and fibromodulin. The effect of 48-h culture with 1 ng/mL of IL-1 β on the mRNA expression of lumican (A) and fibromodulin (B) was quantified using the real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The mRNA expression at each time point is expressed as fold-change compared to normal cells that were cultured in the absence of IL-1 for 48 h. Asterisks denote significant differences (P<0.05).
