Fibers containing MyHC type IIa can be observed in both regions of the diaphragm. However, the sternocostal region (B) and the crural region (not shown) have fibers containing type IIb MyHC (asterisks). The discrete localization of MyHC type IIb fibers supports the presence of individual compartments in the mouse diaphragm.
