Comparison of the densities (per 50 × 250µm field, standard errors in parentheses) of the pathological changes (NCI = neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions, NII = neuronal intranuclear inclusions, SN = surviving neurons, EN = abnormally enlarged neurons) between the four subtypes of frontotemporal lobar degeneration with TDP-43 proteinopathy (FTLD-TDP) based on the composite scheme of Cairns et al (2007b). Data show brain regions (MFG = Middle frontal gyrus, ITG = Inferior temporal gyrus, PHG = parahippocampal gyrus) and pathological features that exhibit a significant difference between groups.
