The notations are: N = N-terminal, large extracellular domain; I, II, III, and IV are the four transmembrane domains; C-loop, second, large cytoplasmic loop; C, C terminus. The hα51–246/hβ3230–458 chimera was constructed using a BspEI restriction enzyme site engineered common to each subunit cDNA resulted in having a serine at position 231 instead of an arginine present in the wild-type hβ3 subunit. The chimera was mutated back to have its wild-type amino acid arginine. The figure is not drawn to scale.
