Chicken jejunum and cecal explants were obtained by culturing slices of 0.5 cm long segments, followed by incubation with indicated concentrations of butyrate in duplicate for 24 h. Real time RT-PCR was performed and the relative fold increase over the control group was calculated using the comparative ΔΔCt method and the GAPDH gene for normalization. The bars represent means ± standard error of the data from two independent experiments.
