Cck1 is not required for virulence factor development. (A) Cultures were grown overnight in YPD medium and diluted to an OD₆₀₀ of 2.0. Tenfold serial dilutions were made in dH₂O, and 5 μl of each was plated. The plates were grown for 2 days at 30°C, 37°C, and 40°C. (B) Capsule formation was assayed at 37°C on DME medium. Capsule production was visualized by India ink staining after cells were grown on DME medium for 3 days. Scale bar, 10 μm. (C) Melanin production was assayed on niger seed medium. Melanin levels produced by the strains were observed in photographs after incubation for 3 days at 37°C.
