Simplified central metabolic pathways of E. coli when using glycerol as a carbon source. The electron transfer through the respiratory chain was controlled by changing the concentration of coenzyme Q1 in the ubiCA mutant strain, whose ubiquinone synthesis was disrupted. PEP: phosphoenolpyruvate; Pyr: pyruvate; Acetyl CoA: Acetyle coenzyme A; TCA: tricarboxylic acid cycle.
