Effect of soybean trypsin inhibitor on cell division and cell death. A, Five-hundred-microliter aliquots of cells from three independent isolations were treated with the indicated concentrations of soybean trypsin inhibitor at 24 h of culture. Cells were scored for percentage of divided cells (black bars) and dead cells (white bars) at 70 h. B, Five-hundred-microliter aliquots of cells from three independent isolations were treated at 48 h and scored for percentage of dead cells at 96 h. The increase in cell death in the untreated control at this later time point reflects the PCD of differentiated TEs.
