Data are shown for leaves 60 and 100 d following transplanting. For Chl the values represent the means ± se of between 7 and 10 leaves. Five measurements were taken from each leaf and averaged. P_max represents light-saturated (>2000 μmol quanta m⁻³ s⁻¹) and CO₂-saturated (900 μg mL⁻¹ CO₂) photosynthesis measured in the field as in Figure 2. All values are significantly different to a 10% level when comparing 60- and 100-d plants, except those marked with an asterisk.
