Effect of TGF-β on activin receptor-like kinase-5 (Alk5)-Smad2/3 target gene plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), and collagen type-1 (Col-1) expression in Cav-2-negative and -positive MLECs. WT MLECs and Cav-2 KO MLECs expressing pBABE or Cav-2-pBABE were plated at low density (3 × 105 per 150-mm dish), followed by incubation with complete medium without or with TGF-β (1 ng/ml) for up to 72 h. At indicated time points, total RNA was isolated and real-time PCR performed as described in materials and methods.
